The work, and colourful and turbulent lives of Frida Kahlo (1907-1954) and Diego Rivera (1886-1957) continue to capture the world's imagination. Frida's intimate self-portraits and Diego's panoramic murals define the cultural identity of twentieth-century Mexico and have given the pair international iconic status.

Speaker: Chloë Sayer is an author and curator, specialising in the art and culture of Latin America. She has curated ethnographic collections for the British Museum, V&A, and ROM, as well as worked on documentaries for BBC and Channel 4. Recipient of Mexican govt's Ohtli medal for long-standing commitment to Mexican culture, Chloë lectures all over the world and is one of E.Y.H.O.'s favourite trip leaders for our Mexico tours.

While Frida Kahlo is respected today as a great artist, she is also admired for her flamboyant and courageous way of dressing. This talk explores her respect for indigenous cultures after the Revolution of 1910.  Kahlo's vibrant rebozos, embroidered blouses, handwoven huipiles, and outré accessories allowed her to express an inimitable style which continues to inspire designers and fashionistas the world over.
