All  kimono worn by maiko and geiko are one of a kind. Many of them are given names, like paintings, and are treasured as such. This is why I have such a vivid memory of everything I ever wore.” — Mineko Iwasaki

To really appreciate Japan, go to its rural outposts. Fall season

If you're going all the way to Japan, time it for one of its most beautiful natural phenomena: autumn. Enjoy autumn spendour in Kakunodate, often dubbed "Little Kyoto of the North". Thanks to the abundance of deciduous trees, fall transforms the landscape with dizzying palettes of red, yellow, and brown.
Note: Impossible to guarantee but tour is well timed to coincide with several fall spots.
